About BSMA

Providing Care to Barbadian Athletes
The BSMA has provided the medical personnel to accompany Barbadian teams to CARIFTA, Central American and Caribbean (CAC), Commonwealth, Pan American and Olympic Games.
The Barbados Sports Medicine Association is a non-profit association of sports medicine professionals providing care to Barbadian athletes.

In 1985 recognising the need for persons to provide knowledge and services to Barbadian athletes, Dr. Adrian Lorde and physiotherapist Dr. Jacqueline King formed the Barbados Sports Medicine Association (BSMA). Shortly thereafter a medical team was assembled for the Run Barbados series as well as the CARIFTA games in Barbados.

BSMA was then recognised by the National Sports Council and the Barbados Olympic Association. Following this, the BSMA has provided the medical personnel to accompany Barbadian teams to CARIFTA, Central American and Caribbean (CAC), Commonwealth, Pan American and Olympic Games.

BSMA was officially launched in 1988.

BSMA assisted in founding the Caribbean Sports Medicine Association and is a member organisation of the Pan American Confederation of Sports Medicine (COPAMEDE) and the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS).

Through the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Solidarity funds, the BSMA has successfully hosted Sports Medicine Congresses in Barbados.
