Shane Drakes, MBBS is the Sports Medicine Fellowship Director at Montefiore Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr Drakes is from Barbados and earned his medical degree from the University of the West Indies. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Montefiore Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center, graduating in the first class of Sports Medicine Fellows in 2015.
On completing his Sports Medicine Fellowship, he worked in Barbados as a PM&R and Sports Medicine physician in private practice. He returned to Montefiore Medical Center in June 2019 and has been there since. He is currently an Attending Physician in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Sports Medicine Fellowship Director and an Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr Drakes has been very active as a scholar and a teacher during his career. He has been faculty for multiple ultrasound workshops on the regional and national level and has been faculty for the New Metro Sports Medicine Board Review Course, held annually for sports medicine fellows, from the inception.
He is board certified in PM&R and Sports Medicine and has experience as a team physician for high school, collegiate, professional and national teams with the highlights of those experiences being a team physician for the Barbados contingent at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018 and his current role as a team physician for the New York City Football Club.
He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AAPM&R), Academic Association of Physiatrists (AAP), American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and the Professional Soccer Physician Society (PSPS).
