Dr. Rudolph (Rudy) Alleyne

Dr. Rudolph (Rudy) Alleyne’s interest in kinesiology, exercise science, and sport psychology were fueled by his experiences as a track and field athlete at high school in Barbados. As an athlete he was always looking for ways to improve his performance. As he moved through the academic ranks, his interest in exercise physiology and exercise and sport psychology became more intense. More specifically, his interests in the physiological constituents associated with improving performance and the use of mental skills to further enhance the performance were of particular relevance to him.

More recently as the Head and Academic Coordinator at the Academy of Sport at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus his resoluteness and love for teaching and sharing knowledge has intensified. His dedication to academia has been supported by his commitment and openness to diversity, his facilitation of a classroom environment that is a conduit for learning, and his personal belief that knowledge is of no worth unless it is shared. He believes not only that the classroom environment must be a conducive for learning, but more importantly it should transcend the mere acquisition of knowledge. He therefore challenges his students to utilize critical analysis, whilst looking beyond what is thought to be traditional. As he charters this course, he relies on his core values of tenacity and industry and continues to strive for excellence in work and play. He lives by the mantra of ‘play and work hard, live life to the fullest.’
