Dr. Carl Ward

Dr. Carl Ward is the Vice President and immediate past president of the Barbados Sports Medicine Association (BSMA). He has a passion for sport and the health of athletes, which has resulted in many years of involvement in the BSMA and its activities. A sense of fair play has expanded his horizons to include antidoping work and education as a locally, regionally and internationally accredited doping control officer and therapeutic use exemption committee chairman (TUEc).

He has worked in the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Barbados for almost 25 years and currently serves as the public health, clinical and administrative head (Medical Officer of Health) of the Frederick Miller Polyclinic (Glebe Polyclinic) in St. George, Barbados. This polyclinic is responsible for the public health and wellness of the central parish of St. George.

When not at the polyclinic he is often assisting with the BSMA at various sporting events, educational activities and has been part of the team putting together the BSMA’s Sport Medicine Clinic. Currently he is on the executive of the Pan American Confederation of Sports Medicine (COPAMEDE) and represents the English-speaking Caribbean. Since 2006 he has served as a team physician or chief medical officer (CMO) of several Barbadian teams to major games across the world and was recently the Host City Medical Coordinator for the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup matches in Barbados including the final.
