Dr. Adrian Lorde was the founding President of the Barbados Sports Medicine Association. He is currently the Immediate Past President of the Pan American Sports Medicine Federation, having served that organization in various capacities over the past 3 decades. He is the Chairman of the National Anti-Doping Commission of Barbados and was the first chairman of the Caribbean Regional Anti-Doping Organization (RADO) from 1995 to 2019, and is presently the Member Country Representative for Barbados on the RADO Board.
Dr Lorde has been a member of the Medical Commissions of both the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, and Pan Am Sports since 1993, and is the first chairman of the North American, Central American and the Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Sports Medicine Commission.
A longstanding Director of the Barbados Olympic Association Inc., Dr. Lorde has been team physician for Barbados national teams since 1986. He has attended all major Games in various capacities including six Olympic Games. He was the Chef de Mission for the Barbados team at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
He has contributed to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in various capacities. He was the Barbados’ representative on the WADA Foundation Board for two terms, a former member of the WADA Athlete Outreach Teams at major Games, a member of the WADA TUE Expert Group for three years, and the RADO Ad-Hoc Working Group. At the Athens 2004 Olympics, he was a member of the WADA Independent Observer Team. He also served in this capacity at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar and at the Winter Paralympics in Vancouver in 2010. In 2018 he was the recipient of the prestigious Mahmoud Khalifa award by WADA for his dedication and leadership of the Caribbean RADO.
A former member of the Medical Committee of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), Dr. Lorde has been Medical and Anti-Doping Delegate for the International Associations of Athletic Federations (IAAF) at regional and international competitions. He now serves on the Therapeutics Use Exemption Panel for the International Testing Authority (ITA). He chaired the Barbados Medical Committee for the ICC Cricket World Cup held in the West Indies in 2007 and the ICC T20 championships in 2010.
A Family Physician and Associate Lecturer in Family Medicine in the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus in Barbados, Dr. Lorde has presented lectures in Sports Medicine and Anti-Doping at many local, regional and international conferences.
