Akshai Mansingh is the inaugural Dean of the Faculty of Sport at the University of the West Indies. This Faculty was created in 2017 and he has oversight of the Academies of Sport on each of the four landed campuses in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados, as well as the Open Campus (which has presence in a further 14 countries). The Faculty is responsible for all Academic and Research Activities related to sport, as well as Sporting Teams and Outreach projects using Sport for Community upliftment.
An Orthopaedic Surgeon by training, he furthered his specialization in Sports Medicine. He set up the Sports Medicine Section at UWI, creating two Masters courses in Sports Medicine for Physicians and Physiotherapists, as well as setting up the UWI Sports Medicine Clinic.
He has been deeply involved in Cricket, serving as Chief Medical Officer of the West Indies Cricket Board for 15 years, and the Caribbean Premier League from its inception in 2013 till 2022. He was the Chief Medical officer of the ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in 2024. He was a member of the inaugural Medical Panel of the International Cricket Council and is currently the Member Representative on the ICC Medical Committee and on their Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee. He is also 2nd Vice President of the Jamaica Cricket Association former Director of Cricket West Indies. He has been a Television Analyst and Radio Commentator for over 25 years.
Apart from cricket he has looked after elite track and field athletes, footballers, netball players and many professional and recreational athletes in the region. He has 36 peer reviewed publications and four book chapters as well as over 150 presentations at conferences and educational forums.
